Pacarizi: Borrell and Lajcak failed to convince their countries to recognize Kosovo, how could they convince Serbia?
Political analyst Rahman Pacarizi said that it was an impossible mission for the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell and the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak to convince Serbia to recognize Kosovo's independence when it was not recognized by the countries they come from, Spain and Slovakia, Klan Kosova TV channel reported.
Pacarizi said that the meeting held on Monday between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, with the mediation of Borrell and Lajcak, was only about license plates.
He emphasized that Borrell was also frustrated because of this.
"The meeting was about license plates, nothing else was discussed. Hence the frustration of Mr. Borrell. As much as we want to say that Borrell and Lajcak are representatives of the EU, they also represent their countries that did not recognize Kosovo. In March 2020, Thaci criticized Lajcak on this very basis. If Lajcak and Borrell failed to convince their countries to recognize Kosovo, how could they convince Serbia? That is an impossible mission!" Pacarizi said.
He added that it was a strategic mistake for Kosovo to look for an alternative other than the United States.
"In a way, Kosovo did not see the United States as a sufficient partner, it was looking for another alternative. It is a strategic mistake for Kosovo to look for an alternative other than the US. Serbia has it, we don't," Pacarizi noted.
