Serb List: CEC decision an example of political engineering by Kurti to prevent our participation in elections

Following the Central Election Commission’s decision not to certify its mayoral and municipal assembly candidates, the Serb List stated that this represents yet another example of political discrimination and “engineering” by Kosovo’s caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti, aimed at preventing their participation in the elections while favoring “pseudo-Serb parties close to him.”

In its statement, the Serb List stressed that its candidates were not certified despite meeting all legal requirements and despite the fact that the competent Office for Certification confirmed that all candidates fully satisfied the criteria.

“Such behavior constitutes a severe blow to the rule of law and proves that the international community, even after more than two decades, has failed to establish a fair and democratic system. Kurti’s disregard for calls to respect the law and the rights of the Serbian people should, we believe, prompt a serious reaction,” the Serb List said.

The party further accused Kurti of deliberately violating his own laws and rules in order to weaken the Serb List and fracture the unity of the Serbian people—unity which, they argue, enables Serbs to be a political factor in Kosovo—since, as they put it, “he and his loyalists from the Serbian community do not enjoy the support of the Serbian people.”

The Serb List underscored its commitment to defending the interests of the Serbian people in Kosovo and vowed to continue fighting for their rights and survival, “despite all pressures and injustices.”

“This decision by Kurti will only motivate us to fight even harder and with greater determination for the right of Serbs to elect their own representatives and mayors—not the ones imposed by Kurti,” the statement concluded, announcing that further details about what they described as a “scandalous, unlawful, and anti-Serb decision” will be presented at a press conference tomorrow.
