Milica Andric Rakic, program manager at the NGO “Social Initiative”, told Kosovo Online that it is to be expected that Self-Determination will base its campaign for the 28 December elections on issues concerning northern Kosovo and Serbian institutions, since that was the pattern in the previous campaign.

“There was a lot of focus on North and South Mitrovica, on the concept of unification, and on the effects of changing the reality on the ground in the North. These are essentially the greatest results of the work of the Self-Determination government in the previous period and they will certainly focus on that. In addition to that, one can expect a focus on social policies as well, which could be seen through all these increases in various budgetary allocations. These are the themes that Self-Determination promotes ideologically, namely Albanian ethno-nationalism and social policies”, Andric Rakic stated.

The newly elected Serbian mayors in the four northern municipalities are expected to take office next week, and our interlocutor is convinced that clashes between the caretaker government and the new mayors will be inevitable.

“There will be attempts to prevent certain changes that the mayors, I assume, will strive to implement, so it will be a very interesting period of stabilization. In that sense, we also have announcements from the European Union, which is already warning that one of the conditions for lifting punitive measures against Kosovo is the peaceful transfer of power”, our interlocutor emphasized.
