Berisha: Kosovo cannot join the EU while it is under the auspices of Resolution 1244
Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Hisen Berisha says that Kosovo cannot become a member of the European Union as long as it is under the auspices of Resolution 1244 and without ratification of the border with Serbia, Ekonomia Online reports.
"For years, Kosovo has fulfilled the conditions. Kosovo has continuously reported on the fulfillment of conditions for integration into the European Council and the requirements and conditions for the European Union, but the issue of Kosovo's integration is not related to the conditions. We are in the process of dialogue with Serbia, we have not yet closed the process of statehood in terms of secession from Serbia, based on international documents, resolutions, and packages; we have declared independence, but we have more than 300 kilometers of undefined borders with Serbia. Kosovo cannot integrate while Resolution 1244 is in place and without the ratification of the border," Berisha said.
Referring to relations with the international community, Berisha says that the current government has increasingly turned the UNMIK office into the Prime Minister's office every day.
"We made Amendment 14 to the Constitution by surpassing Resolution 1244, but since this government came, the UNMIK Office has turned into the Prime Minister's office, and there is power to influence UNMIK," Berisha said.
He adds that with regulations on free movement of vehicles, license plates, electricity payments, Kosovo has opened the doors of Serbia to the European Union, saying that what the Government says are empty promises.
"The reality is something completely different, we are very disappointed when obstacles hindering Kosovo on this path come to light. Serbia has had three conditions for integration to gain candidate status since 2012. It had recognition of Kosovo, a change of the constitution, and legal infrastructure holding Kosovo as a southern province. With the consent of the Franco-German plan, these first two conditions were removed. Kosovo paved the way for Serbia to the European Union with the Franco-German agreement and accepted conditions that it would no longer have obstacles in the next 10 years, in point 3, article 35 in the Ohrid Annex. Therefore, everything discussed today is simply at the level of speculation and part of the election campaign of those who deceive us and repeat everything they have not fulfilled," Berisha said.
