Analyst Blerim Burjani emphasized, regarding the removal of Kosovo's request for special status in the Council of Europe from the agenda of the Political Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), that membership in the Council of Europe is not a priority for Kosovo.

Burjani told Kosovo Online that the issue of Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe has not been discussed for a long time.

“It would be ideal for Kosovo to become a member of this international organization. There are obstacles, but it makes no sense for things to remain this way. This organization has not been mentioned for a while, and right now, it is not an important issue for Kosovo. Kosovo meets all the requirements for membership, and the fact that it is not part of the Council of Europe mostly affects the citizens, both Albanians and Serbs,” Burjani emphasized.

He stated that Kosovo currently has more pressing issues to resolve, such as forming a new government.

“Right now, the most important thing for Kosovo is forming a new government. There is a standoff between the ruling party and the opposition. Once the elections are certified by the Central Election Commission, we will see whether an agreement for forming a government will be reached. Self-Determination Movement is still hoping to form a government in coalition with non-Serb minorities and Nisma, so for now, membership in the Council of Europe is not on Kosovo’s agenda,” he stated.
