Canaj: Osmani is using Trump’s letter to divert public attention from her decisions
Analyst Blerim Canaj stated that Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani is using the letter from US President Donald Trump to divert public attention from her recent decisions, adding that the Presidency’s archives contain a large number of such letters.
Canaj said that Osmani will not get the chance for another presidential term, and that by posting Trump’s letter twice in two days on social media, she is trying to distract public attention from her decision to withdraw the request to the Constitutional Court regarding the constitution of the assembly, as well as from the accusations against Judge Radomir Laban.
“Osmani has at most one more year as president. Looking at the situation today, I don’t believe she will get another chance to be president. In a time of crisis like this, and with what she did regarding Laban, Osmani wants to use this to change public opinion, to make sure people don’t talk too much about what she did with the court, so this is her game,” Canaj said.
He added that this is not the first letter from a US president to a president of Kosovo, and that the US administration wants good relations with Kosovo. Since it does not have proper cooperation with the government led by caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti, it has to maintain contact with the Presidency of Kosovo. For that reason, he said, there will be more such letters.
“There are certainly another 20–30 such letters in the archives. We know that America is now cooperating with the president, because it is not on the best of terms with the prime minister. As long as Osmani is president, we will see more such contacts between America and the Presidency. This is a sign that America wants good relations with Kosovo, so they must have contacts with at least one institution,” Canaj concluded.
