The deadline for applications to participate in the extraordinary local elections for mayors in four municipalities in the north of Kosovo expires tomorrow, and so far only one political entity has submitted a request for certification to the Central Election Commission, Reporteri reports.

Elections for the mayors of the municipalities of North Mitrovica, Leposavic, Zubin Potok and Zvecani are scheduled for December 18.

Registration for participation in the elections began on November 15, and the deadline expires tomorrow at 4 p.m.

Mayors in four municipalities in the north resigned two weeks ago.

CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi said two days ago that until then only one political entity had submitted a request for certification.

"Until today at 4:00 p.m., that is, on Friday, November 18, the CEC received one request for certification for participation in the extraordinary elections for the mayor of the municipality of North Mitrovica. This request was submitted on behalf of the political entity Mitrovica Civic Initiative. Therefore, this political entity submitted the request to participate only in the extraordinary elections for the mayor of the municipality of North Mitrovica," Elezi said.

Serbian parties have announced that they will boycott the mentioned elections.
