Defense attorneys Milos Delevic and Dejan Vasic, in the case against Zarko Zaric and Momir Pantic, emphasized that the witness who testified today mentioned Pantic for the first time, even though his only statement, possessed by both the defense and the prosecution, does not mention him. They also indicated that they would demand an investigation into who within UNMIK and EULEX concealed the statements, if they indeed exist as the prosecution claims.

Delevic stated that the witnesses are behaving “as if they have just woken up from a long winter sleep.”

“For the first time in 25 years, he mentions Momir Pantic, even though he did not mention him in his statement with a single word. I believe, and with good reason suspect, that this witness was given instructions on what to say today during the hearing,” Delevic said.

Vasic stressed that he did not want to comment on the testimony itself but rather on a trend that is becoming increasingly concerning – that witnesses who are being questioned claim to have given statements to EULEX and UNMIK, while the Special Prosecution insists that such statements do not exist.

“I must say, I do not question what the prosecutor said, and I trust the Special Prosecution. However, as early as Monday, I will request from UNMIK and EULEX representatives an urgent investigation into which of their officials concealed these statements from us and from the Special Prosecution. These statements exist, and the witnesses claim they gave them to the Special Prosecution. If the prosecution does not have them, as it claims, then someone within UNMIK or EULEX has hidden those statements,” Vasic said.
