Djuric appeals for the release of Serbian-Israeli citizen: Please free Alon!
Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, has appealed for the release of Alon Ohel, a citizen of both Serbia and Israel, who has been held in captivity by Hamas since October 7, 2023, stating that his health condition is critically poor.
"I appeal to those holding him captive to release him immediately so that he can receive appropriate medical care," Djuric said.
He reminded that Alon Ohel was taken into captivity as a civilian and that his weapon was not a rifle but a piano.
Djuric emphasized that Alon Ohel dedicated his life to art and to creating a better world, “one in which mothers do not mourn the untimely loss of their children’s lives.”
"Alon Ohel is a talented young man who found himself, entirely innocent, caught in the whirlwind of a brutal conflict, the outcome of which will not depend on whether he remains imprisoned in inhumane conditions or is returned to his family. There is no rational reason for yet another young life to be needlessly sacrificed for anyone’s political goals," Djuric stressed.
He added that Serbia has, within its means, provided humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, guided by principles of humanity, and he expressed hope that Alon Ohel would also be released in the name of humanity.
"Please, free Alon," Djuric appealed.
