Djuric: Our foreign policy is based on national interests and a long-term vision of development

Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric stated today, during the 55th regular session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), that Serbia’s foreign policy is formulated in accordance with its fundamental national interests and long-term development vision, focused on the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Speaking in Antigua and Barbuda, Djuric said that Serbia, on this path, seeks to ensure stability and predictability in its own environment.

At the same time, as he added, Serbia is consistently committed to the principle of freedom in decision-making and the independent formulation of its own policies.

“Our foreign policy is grounded in rational assessments and aligned with the needs of our citizens, while also directed at protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity as the core pillars of our national identity. I thank all those who respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia,” Djuric said, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia.

As he added, Serbia is open to economic partnerships, believing that prosperity leads to peace and stability.

“As a permanent observer in the OAS, Serbia strongly believes in the importance of multilateralism and the contributions this organization makes to stability, development, and democracy across the American continent. Our cooperation with the General Secretariat has already materialized through joint projects in the areas of education, tourism, and digital transformation, and there is both willingness and room to deepen this mutually beneficial partnership,” Djuric stated.

According to him, in recent years, we have witnessed dynamic development in bilateral cooperation with OAS member states in political, economic, and cultural fields, and Serbia is open to further strengthening ties with the American region through trade, infrastructure and energy investments, educational programs, and cooperation in the field of sustainable development.

“In a time when the world is undergoing fundamental transformation, when global challenges like climate change or digital security become part of our agendas, we believe that cooperation among states is more necessary than ever. The OAS plays an important role in shaping that cooperation in the Western Hemisphere, and Serbia, as a European partner, is ready to be a bridge in strengthening cooperation between our regions,” Djuric said.

The Serbian foreign minister reminded that Belgrade will host the specialized Expo 2027 exhibition, and that a recent preparatory meeting in Serbia gathered representatives from as many as 154 countries.

That event, he explained, will be an opportunity for individual promotion of the participating countries, as well as a reaffirmation of the principles of international cooperation.
