Djuric: Brnovich's arrival is a positive signal

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric stated today that Serbia is having serious talks with many countries regarding the withdrawal of recognition of Kosovo. Regarding the upcoming visit of British Foreign Secretary David Lammy to Serbia, Djuric expressed his expectation that his arrival in Belgrade could mark the beginning of a new era in the relations between Serbia and the United Kingdom.

In regard to Kenya's recognition of Kosovo, Djuric told Euronews Serbia that it is part of the calculation of Behgjet Pacolli, who, he says, is the main author of the second real recognition of Kosovo's independence in the last decade. He also noted that the Serbian government was too busy with internal events.

"Of course, a huge amount of money is behind this. He is someone who has businesses worth billions. He is a billionaire who decided to spend part of his wealth on this. My question is when will some of Serbia's billionaires, owners of various media outlets, opposition-oriented and fierce critics of the government, invest part of their resources and bring the citizens of Serbia a withdrawal of recognition, as Pacolli did even though the opposition in Kosovo is with Albin Kurti," said Djuric.

He reminded that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has secured 28 withdrawals of recognition, as opposed to two or three new recognitions of Kosovo in the last 10 years.

Djuric emphasized that Pristina is violating agreements, just as it does with its attempts to become a member of the Council of Europe.

"I will not reveal the details of our tactics in the upcoming period, but we are having intensive talks with many countries. We also expect a visit from one of the representatives from that part of the world," Djuric said.

Regarding the upcoming visit of British Foreign Secretary David Lammy to Serbia, Djuric said that it is no secret that Serbia and the UK have different views on the status of Kosovo.

He expressed confidence that Lammy's visit to Belgrade could mark the beginning of a new era in Serbia-UK relations.

"And that it will begin a strategic dialogue with the United Kingdom, which would allow for the deepening of our cooperation in many areas, contributing to the strengthening of trust when it comes to security issues. Through dialogue, cooperation, and the deepening of relations, both sides can benefit. Serbia is a key player in the Balkans," emphasized Minister Djuric.

The head of Serbian diplomacy stated that the arrival of Marko Brnovich as the US Ambassador to Serbia is a positive signal and that he is confident that Brnovich will make a significant contribution to building US-Serbia relations.

"Brnovich's arrival is a positive signal. As an American patriot, he will represent the interests of the United States, and we will do our best to make his work easier here, providing him with warm and sincere hospitality. I know him personally, we've known each other for several years, and I am confident that he will make a significant contribution to building US-Serbia relations," Djuric said to Euronews Serbia.

Noting that part of the public is fueling an euphoric narrative regarding the fact that Brnovich has partial Serbian roots, the minister asked for responsibility so as not to complicate either his selection or the work of the future ambassador.

Djuric pointed out that with Donald Trump's administration, Serbia and the US can quickly reach a level of strategic partnership and quality relations that have been aspired to for decades.

He added that stronger economic cooperation is in the interest of both countries and that Serbia has something to offer but also earn from becoming a gateway for American companies, especially in the field of high technologies.

"I worked on this as an ambassador until a year ago, and now I am working on it as the Foreign Minister, strengthening this relationship as one of the pillars of our foreign policy," Djuric said.

When asked if he could provide any details about the meeting between Serbian President Vucic and US President Trump, which was announced last night by Vucic, he replied that more details would be made public when the time is right.

"But the fact that Vucic was one of the first world leaders to get in touch with Trump in the first days after the elections, exchanging congratulations and letters, along with contacts with other top US officials, is a guarantee that we are working on strengthening our position in the US," said Minister Djuric.

He also added that political instability in Serbia has shaken the confidence of foreign investors, which has already led to economic consequences.

He pointed out that negative images from Serbia have circulated the world, damaging the country's international reputation.
