In response to Pristina’s announcement that it will build a new bridge over the Ibar River for pedestrian and vehicle traffic, the President of the Serb List, Zlatan Elek, emphasizes that Serbs oppose such a decision, as the bridge will not symbolize unity but rather division and separation. For this reason, they will launch a petition against its construction, TV Most reports.

Elek announced that citizens will be able to sign the petition starting Monday, in front of the Serb List headquarters.

“In recent days, we have held intensive talks with representatives of the international community, and we expect a more serious response from them to this obvious provocation by Pristina. After all, the task of the international community is to ensure peace for every citizen, and I hope they will succeed in doing so,” Elek emphasized.

He also underscored that the symbolism of the Ibar bridge, which separates the northern and southern parts of the city, has been presented to the international community.

“We all know well that the bridge on the Ibar is a symbol of the suffering of the Serbian people, who preserved northern Kosovo with their lives, as well as the reputation of the international community, which constantly speaks of multiethnicity. At the same time, we made it clear that we were not consulted nor asked about the construction of the new bridge, and we emphasized that all Serbs are against it. That is why we launched a petition, which our citizens will be able to sign starting Monday in front of the Serb List headquarters,” Elek told TV Most.

He concluded by stating that this bridge would not represent any form of connection, but would instead deepen division and discord.
