The U.S. Ambassador to Belgrade, Christopher Hill, hosted a reception this evening in celebration of the 4th of July, U.S. Independence Day. During the event, he conveyed that the United States and Serbia have gone through difficult times, but he now feels the support of the Serbian people and recognizes that only together can they embark on the path to prosperity, as reported by N1.

Hill mentioned that the American and Serbian people share many common points in their cultures, which are primarily upheld by the younger generations.

"Only by working together can we achieve great things. In that spirit, I would like to raise a glass of Serbian wine to toast our friendship," said the ambassador, who began his speech in Serbian.

He added that although a country might be faster if it moves alone, it can achieve higher goals only when it is in a community with others.

"It is always better to be together, and I feel that optimism in the Serbian people despite the hard times we've had. Serbia today understands the direction it wants to go, and we want to be with Serbia at every step of its journey," Hill said.

The reception at the residence of the U.S. ambassador was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, ministers Marko Đuric, Sinisa Mali, Tomislav Momirovic, Bratislav Gasic, Goran Vesic, Ivica Dacic, BIA Director Vladimir Orlic, Vojvodina's Prime Minister Maja Gojkovic, Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Porfirije, as well as opposition representatives Miroslav Aleksic, Nebojsa Zelenovic, and others.
