Kosovo Special Prosecution: S. S. arrested at Merdare on suspicion of war crimes

Kosovo police have arrested S. S. at Merdare on suspicion of committing an alleged war crime in Vucitrn during the conflict in Kosovo, the Kosovo Special Prosecution announced.

According to the prosecution, S. S. has been placed in 48-hour detention.

“Kosovo Police, specifically investigators from the War Crimes Investigation Directorate, arrested S. S. at the border crossing between the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia at Merdare, and in cooperation with the Special Prosecution are undertaking all necessary investigative actions in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code,” the statement posted on Facebook reads.

The prosecution added that it will request pre-trial detention for S. S.

“He is suspected of having committed the criminal offense of War Crimes against the Civilian Population in the Vucitrn municipality during the Kosovo war. Within the legal deadline, a request for pre-trial detention will be submitted to the Basic Court in Pristina,” the Special Prosecution concluded.
