Kurti in Leposavic on the opening of a maternity ward in the Serbian Provisional Authority building

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti visited Leposavic today, inspecting the building that once housed the Provisional Authority, as he stated, to determine whether the facility meets the conditions for opening a maternity ward.

Kurti came to Leposavic accompanied by Kosovo's Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, and Deputy Mayor, Marina Bogojevic.

Afterward, he stopped by a nearby cafe owned by a Gorani. Increased presence of Kosovo Police and members of special units was noticeable on the streets of Leposavic.

Kurti mentioned that he had received information that women from Leposavic give birth in Novi Pazar or are referred to Mitrovica, which, as he assessed, is too far.

“Why shouldn't women in Leposavic have their own gynecology clinic or polyclinic here. That is why we came today with the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, and the Director of the Gynecology Clinic in Pristina, to see if this facility is, in principle, suitable for opening such a clinic or polyclinic, so that women from Leposavic can give birth here,” Kurti said.

As he noted, he also went to see the mammography machine in Leposavic, after which he would head to the municipality of Vitina.

He reminded that before his visit to Leposavic, he had been in North Mitrovica.

“We want to raise awareness among everyone, not just women and girls, but also men, in fact all citizens, about the dangers of breast cancer. Prevention and early diagnosis will contribute to the health of women, as well as all of us, our families, and our citizens,” Kurti emphasized.

Kurti pointed out that health and adequate healthcare institutions will ensure the well-being and safety of citizens.
