Kurti responds to Lajcak: Next year, I can draft the CSM Statute with Rasic and Krasniqi

Since, according to the latest statement from the European representative Miroslav Lajcak, the draft of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities Statute is considered an internal matter of Kosovo, next year, I can draft a modern European proposal in consultation with my ministers, for Communities and Returns, as well as Local Government Administration, with Nenad Rasic and Elbert Krasniqi", Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated today.

Kurti posted seven items on Facebook that, according to him, concern the normalization of relations. Within these points, he also referred to Lajcak's interview yesterday, in which Lajcak stated that it was not necessary for Serbia to sign the CSM Statute because it should be an internal document of Kosovo.

In the first item, Kurti emphasizes that the absolute priority for the government is the security of Kosovo, territorial integrity, and the life and well-being of all citizens without distinction.

"The findings of the investigation into the terrorist and criminal attack on September 24 in Banjska and Zvecan, where Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed, must be immediately announced. Milan Radoicic and members of his paramilitary group must be handed over to the Kosovo authorities", Kurti stated in the second point.
In the third item, he expresses hope that the EU and the US will impose sanctions on Serbia.

"Especially its President, Aleksandar Vucic, due to hostile and aggressive behavior and actions towards Kosovo, due to the escalation in the north of our country, and abandoning the Basic Agreement (via a letter from Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on December 14)", Kurti stated.

He then reiterated the demand for the lifting of EU and US sanctions on Kosovo and for Kosovo to be granted candidate status for the EU and membership in the Partnership for Peace.

"I have been told that Serbia should also accept the draft of the Community Statute. According to the latest statement from the European envoy Miroslav Lajcak, since the draft of the Statute is only an internal issue of Kosovo, I can draft a modern European proposal in the next year with consultations with my ministers Nenad Rasic (for Communities and Returns) and Elbert Krasniqi (Local Government Administration)," Kurti wrote.

In item six, he suggests that the Basic Agreement (with the Annex for Implementation) for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia could be signed at the European Council Summit on March 21 and 22, 2024.

"I believe that Brussels and European Envoy Lajcak will focus much more on Serbian President Vucic, who stole the elections in Serbia with the help of Dodik, Mandiv, and Radoicic (especially in Belgrade) and who withdrew from the Basic Agreement on February 27, 2023 (via a letter from Prime Minister Ana Brnabic), instead of exerting pressure on the public through options that turn democratic and pro-European Kosovo into a problematic issue", Kurti stated in item seven.
