Lines in North Mitrovica, people with disabilities, and parents of children with developmental disabilities are waiting for payment

In front of the Postal Savings Bank branch in North Mitrovica, long lines of citizens are still present today, including people with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities, who are trying to withdraw their deposited money.

Today, citizens gathered in front of the main branch of the Postal Savings Bank to try to withdraw their money. The gathered citizens expressed to Kosovo Online great dissatisfaction with the current situation, as most of them are unable to travel to central Serbia due to already difficult living conditions and poor health.

The mother of a child with developmental disabilities, Ivana Rakic, poses the question of who is bothered by and endangered by children with developmental disabilities or disabilities to the extent that their means of living must be taken away from them.

"What they are doing to us today is shameful and inhumane, I cannot find words to express it. What is the purpose of international missions in Kosovo and Metohija that do absolutely nothing for the human rights of the most vulnerable individuals? They have never helped us, and now they remain diplomatically silent as the only assistance we receive for these children is being taken away. Our survival depends on income and assistance from Serbia, which includes care and assistance from others, child benefits, social assistance, minimum wages, and pensions. That little bit is what they live off, and it has been denied to them. This is not only the disgrace and shame of Pristina, which demonstrates force against the weakest, it is also the disgrace and shame of the international community that supports them in this, allowing our children to suffer despite all the struggles. These poor parents, amidst all this unrest and ongoing struggle, have lived in fear for 25 years, without medication, without food, and now without the only assistance provided by Serbia," she says.

Nenad Pantovic, a person with disabilities, says that essential items for treatment have been denied to him.

"Now it has come to the point where I can't even withdraw my pension and social assistance. As a person with a disability, I have to go to central Serbia to collect my money. The treatment and buying medication are very difficult. I don't know what the international community and observer missions are doing; this is a disgrace for these people and these individuals, not just for me but also for older people who won't be able to withdraw their funds earned over 40 years," Pantovic says.

Ksenija Jankovic, a mother of a child with developmental disabilities, tried to withdraw foster care and assistance, but there was no money for payment.

"There's no money to be paid out. It's making my everyday life too difficult. This whole bad situation, and what Prime Minister Kurti is doing, is truly shameful. He says he's thinking about the people, protecting everyone, and sticking to the law, but really, how is he sticking to the law? Shameful, I have no words, this is terrible, it's been like this for days. Sometimes we can't even get in. Social assistance is somewhat provided, but foster care and assistance cannot be paid out because it arrives in checks, and the mailman delivers it to our home address. Horrible and shameful," she said.
