Maliqi: Kurti revives old options, woos voters

Political analyst Shkelzen Maliqi emphasizes for Kosovo Online that by becoming part of the Albanian opposition in North Macedonia, where it will participate in the upcoming elections, Self-Determination is trying to reach its voters who have been disappointed by promises made but not fulfilled.

According to him, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is aware that elections await him in Kosovo as well, which is why he is reviving Self-Determination's old idea of the unification of Albanians.

However, since he failed to win a mandate in the Albanian parliament, Maliqi says, Kurti has now decided to try his luck in North Macedonia.

"Kurti is taking all options, or reviving the old ones, as he knows that next year there will be elections, so he is appealing to all voters, including those he disappointed when he gave up on unification with Albania," Maliqi believes.

He emphasizes that Kurti has again decided to play the card of the unification of Albanians because he knows that he gained a large number of votes for that idea.

"This is the wrong strategy. He and his ministers are sending signals that Albanians should unite in the future, which was the initial platform of Self-Determination, so now they are playing that card because there is significant disappointment among their activists. What was promised has not been fulfilled, and the Community is being formed, causing chaos and tear gas being thrown in the Assembly," Maliqi added.
