Mijacic on the Security Council session: A good opportunity to discuss the negative consequences of the decision regarding the dinar

Coordinator of the National Convention for Chapter 35, Dragisa Mijacic, commented on the UNSC session on Kosovo, saying that it was good that the session had been scheduled because it would provide an opportunity to present all arguments related to the decision of the CBK regarding the ban on the dinar in Kosovo.

"At the request of Serbia, tonight's Security Council session on Kosovo is being held regarding the regulation of the CBK related to the use of the dinar in Kosovo, and it is good that such a session has taken place, where the negative consequences of the application of that regulation, which is already in force, can be shown because we have had intrusions into post offices, financial institutions operating within the system of the Republic of Serbia, which primarily prevent the most vulnerable citizens from accessing their salaries and pensions," Mijacic told Kosovo Online.

He added that there were no high expectations from the session.

"When it comes to expectations and results of such a session, we can say that they will be quite limited, considering that major Western countries have roughly determined their stance on the independence of Kosovo and its constitutionality. On the other hand, they also have objections to the implementation of this CBK Regulation, so we will see, it will be very interesting to hear representatives of the US, Great Britain, and France, which have supported the Quint statement on this issue, and we will see if it will produce any results in terms of further pressure on Kosovo authorities or if it will be just another in a series of previous sessions," Mijacic said.

He adds that concrete results will not be discussed at the session itself but believes that there is concrete pressure, primarily from the US, for Pristina to postpone the implementation of this decision and to allow the further use of the dinar at least until a solution is found within the dialogue concerning the functioning of the CSM and transparent financing of the Serbian community by the Republic of Serbia.
