Meetings on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York will be an opportunity for Serbia to convey its views on Kosovo, especially in light of the unsuccessful meeting in Brussels, because some views and principles of Serbia have now come to the fore, said former diplomat Zoran Milivojevic.

"It should be reminded that the world is not only Europe, or the European Union, that narrow framework in which this happens, but that it has a global dimension and that there are many actors in the world whose support we have. So this is an opportunity to convey our views, especially in light of the unsuccessful meeting in Brussels," Milivojevic told for RTS.

That Kosovo will be one of the topics in New York was also confirmed by the EU, from which they stated that now is the moment for the EU and the USA to discuss possible positive and negative incentives for the two sides.

When it comes to the role of the USA, Milivojevic assessed that the role of Washington is crucial, but that the USA is clearly distancing itself from the formal dialogue.

He clarifies that the inclusion of the USA is not possible; it would mean returning to the Security Council, to Resolution 1244 and with the inclusion of other members.

"The Americans know that and that's why they follow it from the sidelines, they influence it as much as possible, they have been participating from the party since the beginning, for 10 years, but never directly, precisely because they are entering the trap of being alone against the concept that is defined by it," Milivojevic said.
