The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain: We are not changing our position on the issue of Kosovo; dialogue is the only way to reach a solution

The spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Elena Aljarilla Cortezon, told Gazeta Ekspress that Spain had not changed its position on the non-recognition of Kosovo and that dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina was the only possible way to achieve a permanent solution.

Commenting on the recently held meeting between the EU Special Envoy for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Miroslav Lajcak, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Jose Manuel Albares, she pointed out that Lajcak had informed Albares about the EU's efforts for dialogue and de-escalation of the situation in Kosovo.

According to her, Cortezon said during the meeting with Lajcak that, as always, Spain had provided support and forwarded a constructive approach to a solution that would be acceptable to both sides.

"At the meeting, Lajcak informed Albares about his efforts to promote dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and to de-escalate tensions. As always, Spain showed support for the work of the special representative and forwarded a constructive attitude towards a mutually acceptable solution," Cortezon said.

However, she pointed out that Spain, like several other EU countries, had not changed its position on Kosovo's independence.

"Spain, like other EU countries, has not changed its position on the non-recognition of Kosovo and believes that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is the only possible way to achieve a lasting solution to the dispute over that territory," Cortezon emphasized.
