The Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica has allocated municipal land to the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs
The Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica made the decision to allocate municipal land to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kosovo during its regular session today, in response to a request from the ministry. The land granted to the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs by this decision is located near the Military Repair Facility, close to the Bus Station, where the building of the Temporary Municipal Authority of Kosovo Mitrovica and the building of the Public Utility Company "Standard" are situated.
In the request received on December 14th, it was stated that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kosovo should be granted a 27,400 m2 plot of land in the territory of the Municipality of North Mitrovica, as reported by Kosovo Online.
The decision was made by the majority of votes of the councilors without any discussion. The Chairman of the local Assembly, Nexhat Uglanin, only read the agenda item and then put it to a vote.
When asked why he did not explain the decision to allocate land to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and did not call for a discussion on this item but immediately put it to a vote, Uglanin replied that this was a question to be directed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"Ask the Ministry of Internal Affairs that question; I am obliged to forward this decision to the Ministry of Local Government, whether the Ministry will accept this decision does not depend on us," said Uglanin, adding that "during the time when the Serbian List was in power in North Mitrovica, many buildings were constructed without permits."
Uglanin presented the mentioned explanation to the reporters and a few present citizens, at a time when there were no councilors in the room, as they had left the chamber during Uglanin's discussion with the media and citizens.
During the session, Councilor Betim Osmani frequently drew attention to the chairperson, pointing out that the procedure was not being followed. He stated that this was not how an assembly should be conducted, emphasizing that before voting on any agenda item, there should first be a discussion, rather than immediately proceeding to a vote. He particularly criticized the absence of a public debate on the statute of the Municipality of North Mitrovica.
"As far as I know, even the media, and I follow the media, did not receive any emails from the Assembly for public debate, but it's sad that there are no citizens in the public debate. We all know that social media is for advertising, but it would be nice to have public debates with citizens. However, it's very sad that not a single citizen is present," said Osmani.
According to what was presented in the request, the land granted to the Kosovo Police by this decision is located near the Bus Station, where the building of the Temporary Municipal Authority of North Mitrovica is currently situated, along with the building of the Public Utility Company "Standard."
