Pavlovic: The Srebrenica Resolution was not adopted for the purpose of reconciliation among peoples
Director of the Center for Socio-Political Research of Republic of Srpska and author of the book "The Battle for Srebrenica - War for Civilization," Dusan Pavlovic, assessed ahead of the 29th anniversary of the events in Srebrenica that the recently adopted resolution in the UN General Assembly will not fundamentally change anything because it was not adopted for the purpose of reconciliation in the region.
"The motives behind the adoption of the resolution in the UN were not related to reconciliation in the region. Everyone had their reasons, but when we talk about the political West, their motives were somewhat different. For the Americans, it was about NATO expansion, and for the Germans, it was to permanently poison relations between Serbs and Bosniaks in the region," Pavlovic stated for Kosovo Online.
According to him, the results and manner of voting for this resolution in the UN General Assembly actually showed a "huge defeat for the collective West."
"You have to bear in mind that half of those who voted for the resolution did so, colloquially speaking, with a gun to their heads. Perhaps half voted because they had political reasons, as there were major threats and pressures to vote. In fact, two-thirds of the countries did not want to vote, aware that it could only produce new instabilities and conflicts, and long-lasting ones," Pavlovic emphasized.
Asked whether the adoption of this resolution will change the views of those who do not acknowledge that a crime in the range of genocide was committed in Srebrenica, Pavlovic stated that Republic of Srpska has never hidden the fact that an "ad hoc mass crime" occurred in that town in July 1995.
"Unfortunately, this resolution has little to do with the unfortunate victims of mass crimes that occurred against Muslims, which no one in Republic of Srpska or Serbia denies. Especially after the report of the independent international Commission for the Investigation of the Suffering of All Peoples in the Srebrenica Region established by the Government of Republic of Srpska. That commission of international experts with professional and personal integrity established what really happened in the Srebrenica region during those years. Both with Muslims and Serbs. In this way, the Government of Republic of Srpska also paid a kind of tribute to the Muslim victims who suffered at the hands of Serbs, those who committed crimes against them in 1995 and before," Pavlovic said.
