Petkovic with Sammelin: Kurti aims for an ethnically pure Kosovo, he is not interested in reducing tensions

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, met today with the Swedish Ambassador to Serbia, Charlotte Sammelin, to discuss the current political and security situation in Kosovo, with a particular focus on the latest unilateral and violent actions by Pristina, which have resulted in the closure of over 35 Serbian institutions, temporary bodies, social work centers, and post offices south of the Ibar River.

According to the statement, Petkovic emphasized that these actions amount to unprecedented terror and violence against Serbs, which daily confirm the ambitions of Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti to expel the Serbian people and create an ethnically pure Kosovo.

He reminded that since the beginning of June last year, when the EU clearly demanded de-escalation and the withdrawal of the Kosovo Police from the north, Pristina has openly shown it has no interest in reducing tensions.

"By closing Serbian institutions, the regime in Pristina is making it explicitly clear that it has no intention of forming the Community of Serb Municipalities, as the shut institutions were meant to be the foundation of the CSM," Petkovic stated.

He also pointed to the significant pressures and obstacles placed before the Serb List by the Pristina regime, aimed at preventing its participation in the upcoming elections on February 9, aware that a vote for the Serb List is a vote for the survival of the Serbian people.

"Belgrade neither desires nor takes steps that could provoke tensions and new crises on the ground. However, Pristina, through its unreasonable and unilateral actions, is doing everything to escalate the situation. Despite this, Belgrade remains fundamentally committed to maintaining peace and stability in our southern province and appeals to the international community, primarily the EU, to use decisive political and diplomatic measures to prevent further actions by Pristina, which threaten to destabilize the region, create new confrontations, and jeopardize the continuation of dialogue," Petkovic concluded.
