Popovic: I hope the measures will slow down the departure of youth from Kosovo
Any help is more than welcome, especially for the youth and young married couples," says Srdjan Popovic, a member of the Presidency of the Serb List from Gracanica, speaking to Kosovo Online while commenting on the announcement by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic that Kosovo will be granted the status of a special social protection area.
"You can see for yourself that the political and security situation is very difficult, which has affected the livelihood of people, especially the youth, who are increasingly leaving the territory of Kosovo and Metohija. I believe these measures will slow down that process, and I think they are very important for our youth, for young married couples. I can also say that our country is doing a lot to help our people here," Popovic emphasizes.
He estimates that nearly 90 percent of the Serbian population in that area lives off of aid from Serbia.
"I hope this situation will improve and that the measures will bear fruit," he adds.
According to him, the comments he has heard regarding the announced aid are very positive.
"The situation is very difficult, and people are mostly confused. Here in 2024, each of us expected that the situation would be much better than it was in previous years. But you can see that, month by month, the situation is simply getting worse. Again, we see that it doesn't stop, and we live in that hope. What we have to do now is endure, and I hope that common sense will prevail and that this will simply stop one day," Popovic believes.
