Spahiu: Kurti's participation in the North Macedonia elections favors Serbia

The participation of Albin Kurti in the campaign for the elections in North Macedonia had a negative impact on Kosovo and favored Serbia's politics, a university professor from Pristina, Nexhmedin Spahiu, says for Kosovo Online.

"What Kurti was doing in Macedonia was in favor of Serbia's policy, which was very smart compared to Bulgaria's policy, which was disastrous in terms of influence in Macedonia. In this whole game around Macedonia, Serbia is still the biggest winner and beneficiary. Everything Kurti and Edi Rama did in Macedonia went in favor of Serbia," Spahiu assessed.

He notes that the parties supported by Albin Kurti's Self-Determination Movement gained some ground in the elections, but on the other hand, the influence of Albanians in North Macedonia after the elections will be much smaller.

"Considering that parties more pro-Serbian than pro-Bulgarian are winning there, it means that nothing has been gained, and the influence of Albanians in Macedonia will be much smaller than it is now," our interlocutor says.

He assesses that North Macedonia's foreign policy towards Kosovo and Serbia will change, leaning towards Serbia.

"I hope an agreement will be reached between Kosovo and Serbia, otherwise, it can be expected that Macedonian policy will now be more on the side of Serbia than on the side of Kosovo," Spahiu said.
