Szijjarto: Hungary will vote against Kosovo's membership in European bodies

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, said today in Budapest that the country would vote against Kosovo's membership in European bodies, RTV reports.

"Our position is that it would put the achievement of a compromise in jeopardy if certain European formations were to receive Kosovo before reaching an agreement. And for that reason, Hungary will vote against Kosovo's membership in European bodies," Szijjarto said, answering questions from journalists, at a joint conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, Tanjug reported.

Szijjarto emphasized that Hungary was really interested in reaching a solution based on a realistic and genuine dialogue regarding Kosovo.

"And that's why we accepted the leadership of the KFOR forces in Kosovo because we thought that maybe in that way we can contribute to ensuring peace. We want a compromise to be reached as soon as possible," Szijjarto said.
