Szunyog: Kosovo must do better regarding the rule of law and legislation

The Head of EU office in Kosovo, Tomáš Szunyog, participated in the discussion on the topic "Report on enlargement: what does it mean for Kosovo?", which was organized by the EU Office in Kosovo and the House of Europe, and on that occasion he emphasized that the overall assessment was better than last year, Koha reports.

Now there is a government coalition that has a majority in the Parliament, unlike in 2021, and this is very important for Kosovo according to Szunyog. He also spoke about areas that Kosovo should focus on in the future.

The first thing he mentioned was the work of the National Assembly, pointing out that they expected much greater progress in legislation.

"Unfortunately, we still see problems that prevent the Parliament from working at full capacity," Szunyog emphasized.

Another area where Kosovo needs to improve its work is energy and environmental protection. He added that they hoped that the Energy Strategy would be approved and implemented.

Szunyog assessed that improvements were also needed in the area of ​​the rule of law.

"The rule of law is also an area that has progressed, but we need more work to implement the legal framework, to have verdicts for many court cases that have been going on for a long time. We expect good results in the coming months," Szunyog said.

Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi also participated in the discussion and pointed out that it is very important for him the fact that Kosovo has political stability this year.

"I think that the ability of the government to intervene faster and in a targeted manner is crucial, and for me the most important thing that happened this year is political stability. If we see the priorities of Self-Determination - we see that they are justice and the economy," Bislimi said.

He said that in these two areas the report highlights the Government's achievements.

"Double-digit economic growth last year, the formalization of the economy was the largest in history, we increased exports. We have an economic performance that is extremely better compared to the expectations we have under the circumstances we have," Bislimi said.

In the field of justice, he said that he believed that more was done in a year than in a decade. We must understand, he adds, that the rule of law cannot happen in a year.
