Vucic: We know they deceived us with the Brussels Agreement
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated today that many people told him after his address at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly that he spoke to the core of the problem, adding that it is rare for someone to have the courage to say what he presented.
He emphasized that he spoke at the session as the Serbian president, as the leader of a small country struggling with a problem partly imposed on it and partly of its own making.
"The problem originates from the 1990s, not to mention the lies we deluded ourselves with from 2000 until the declaration of independence. Now we are more realistic; we know we don’t want conflicts or wars. We know they deceived us with the Brussels Agreement. They say the Munich Agreement was a buying of time, maybe they wanted that for us too, but it turns out we are resilient, both legally and politically, and in terms of life. We will continue to fight for our country," he said, continuing.
"I presented facts and spoke from the heart of every citizen of Serbia. I didn’t speak ill of anyone, didn’t take the opportunity to fabricate like Becirovic did, but I said what I believe to be the root of the problem. The core issue, when you put aside all the lies, such as those told in 2000 that Kosovo was a democratic issue until the declaration of Kosovo’s independence, is that people in the West, who consider themselves infallible, are unable to say 'sorry.' Not just for civilian casualties, but to acknowledge that while Serbs are not saints, they too misjudged. Today, they wouldn’t act the same. That wouldn’t change our policy, but it would make things a bit easier. However, we never heard that, and I believe we won’t hear it in the next 10 years," Vucic said on TV Pink.
Speaking about the global situation, Vucic stated that it is necessary for the war to end so that Europe can focus on its progress.
"We in Serbia are xenophobic and constantly fear that someone will take our land, but the truth is our land is empty. The whole region is in this situation, not to mention Albania or our southern province. What was most populated during Yugoslavia is now deserted, just houses and shutters," he said.
He stressed that it is in the interest of the entire West to have peace in the Middle East, and he is sure that peace in Ukraine is in Europe’s interest.
Unfortunately, he added, there is no end to the war in Ukraine in sight.
"I think both sides are extremely exhausted, but Ukraine is in a slightly worse situation," he said.
Commenting on the address of the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Becirovic, at the UN General Assembly, Vucic said that his claims about Serbia's aspirations to threaten the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as other countries in the region, are a blatant lie.
He reminded that Serbia sent a protest letter stating that Becirovic made a series of unfounded and malicious accusations against Serbia and the Serbian people during his speech.
"They seem to think this is their last chance to turn the entire world against Serbia. They were hoping for an attack on Serbia because they claimed we are Putin's lackey, a Russian satellite. They don’t understand because they project themselves, knowing they are a mere fragment that exists to be told what to do," Vucic said.
He emphasized that at the UN, they forwarded written statements to everyone claiming that Belgrade is removing Tito's grave because they know that Serbia's friends in Africa and Asia don’t like to hear that.
However, he noted that representatives of Non-Aligned Movement countries saw his statement that Tito's grave would not be relocated.
