Zeqiri on Hovenier's message to the new mayors: We will coordinate with the international community

The new mayor of Zubin Potok, Izmir Zeqiri, stated today, after taking the oath, that the new leaders of the four municipalities in northern Kosovo have full legal and constitutional authority but will also coordinate with the international community.

He was responding to the request of the US Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, for the new mayors in the north to assume a technical role rather than a political one.

"We are mayors with full legal and constitutional authority, but we will be in full accordance with all relevant factors. I will implement the law in the best possible manner. So far, we can say that the ethnic relations among us are good, and we will strive for them to be excellent," he said.

Zeqiri added that he wants to operate at the highest level of responsibility, offering all services to the citizens of the Zubin Potok municipality without any distinction.

"We will strive to meet all the demands of the citizens, especially the Serbian majority," he stated.

Today, Zeqiri took the oath in the village of Cabra. As a candidate of the Democratic Party of Kosovo in the local elections held on April 23, he won 197 votes. Only 1,567 out of approximately 40,000 voters participated in the elections in the four municipalities in northern Kosovo. Serbs boycotted those elections.
