The Feast of the Holy Healers celebrated at Zociste Monastery

The Feast of the Holy Healers, Saints Cosmas and Damian, is being celebrated today at Zociste Monastery near Orahovac. Along with a large number of gathered Serbs, the celebration is attended by Svetlana Miladinov, the Assistant Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.

The Monastery of St. Cosmas and Damian in Zociste is a symbol of suffering.

In September 1999, members of the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army) mined the monastery, and the church was completely destroyed. The church bell from 1913 was thrown into a well and covered with earth.

In 2004, with the return of the monastic community, the monastery began its restoration and resurrection. A new church was built using the same stone, following the design of the old one, as stated in the announcement from the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.
