NGO Aktiv: Telephone line opened for reporting the brutal actions of the Kosovo Police

NGO Aktiv has launched a hotline for reporting any type of excessive force, brutal treatment, mistreatment, or any other inappropriate behavior by members of the Kosovo police force, according to the press release of the non-governmental organization.

As stated, they wanted to encourage citizens to break the wave of silence and report inappropriate police behavior.

"The goal is to record the cases and to direct those who called to report the cases to the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo in order to open an official investigation and to carry out direct supervision over numerous cases that are known, but which have not been officially reported to the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo," he says in the announcement.

It is added that the NGO Aktiv in no way intended to replace the mandate of official institutions but to serve in the institutional vacuum as an initial contact for citizens in the effort to report such cases.

The phone number where citizens can report cases is 064/310-6660.

"On working days from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., an NGO Aktiv employee will be available to record the details of the application and provide the necessary information on the application submission mechanisms. After 4:00 p.m. and during the weekend, the phone line will be open for receiving SMS messages," the statement concludes.

The opening of the phone line was announced yesterday by the executive director of the NGO Aktiv, Miodrag Milicevic, who was recently exposed to physical and verbal abuse by members of the Special Police Unit of Kosovo at the administrative crossing of Jarinje.
