Professor of macroeconomics Nagip Skenderi stated that Serbia had shown greater wisdom than Kosovo in attracting American investments and warned about a second, more severe package of EU sanctions against Kosovo, as reported by Koha.

Commenting on the call from the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, which appealed for the removal of restrictive import measures from Serbia, Skenderi mentioned that the United States was investing in the region and had chosen Serbia as a potential ally.

"Data from the American Chamber is concerning because there is a significant American economic interest. In the era of global economics, a free and open economy is needed. According to the Serbian Statistical Office, American companies invested over a billion dollars in Serbia just last year, out of total American investments. In this context, Serbia gained 30,000 jobs. The US is investing in the region, but it must be acknowledged that they have found Serbia as a potential ally. In this context, the Serbian Government was wiser because it appointed a liaison officer in the State Department. It is not surprising that the American Chamber of Commerce reacted because they propose a global and open economy, ahead of political issues," Skenderi said.

According to him, the Kosovo Government needs to do more to attract new American investments and especially reduce the trade deficit, which, according to Skenderi, has increased drastically.

"A good stimulative policy for local producers is needed for this," Skenderi emphasized.

He warned that if the Kosovo Government did not heed the demands of the international community, a second and more severe package of EU sanctions could be expected.

"If the government does not listen to the demands of the US and the EU, a second, more severe package of sanctions is expected. It's not the government that will suffer, but the people," Skenderi emphasized.
