Elshani on the burning of Dusan Milanovic's car: The investigation is still ongoing; EULEX: We are monitoring the case

Deputy Police Commander for the Northern Region, Veton Elshani, said today for Kosovo Online that the investigation into the burned car of Dusan Milanovic, the founder of Kosovo Online, was still ongoing.

"So far, we do not have new information, the investigation is still ongoing, through which we will determine whether it is related to the work he does," Elshani said.

"In line with its mandate, EULEX assertively monitors the reaction of Kosovo institutions to alleged criminal acts against journalists, as crimes against journalists can have a harmful impact on freedom of expression," the mission stated in response to our portal's question regarding the burning of Dusan Milanovic's car, the owner of the company VIM Info in the Kosovo system, who is the founder of the Kosovo Online portal.

As they stated in a written response to our editorial office, EULEX will continue to monitor the mentioned case, which is currently under investigation by the Kosovo Police.

The EU Office stated to our portal that they were aware that the Kosovo Police was currently investigating this case.

"We expect relevant institutions to resolve this case," the EU Office said.

In Leposavic, during the night between Saturday and Sunday, Dusan Milanovic's car, the owner of the company VIM Info in the Kosovo system, who is the founder of the Kosovo Online portal, was set on fire. The case was reported to the Kosovo Police, who went to the scene and conducted an investigation.

Yesterday, it is worth noting, the President of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo and Metohija, Ivana Vanovac, spoke out, stating that the Association of Journalists of Serbia and Journalists of Kosovo and Metohija expect a full investigation into the case of burning Dusan Milanovic's car, the owner of the company VIM Info in the Kosovo system, who is the founder of the Kosovo Online portal. She also expects that it be determined whether this act is in any way related to Kosovo Online's reporting.

"The least we expect now is for the investigation to be carried out to the end, to find out the reason why that car burned, and on the other hand, to determine in further proceedings whether this gesture is in any way related to Kosovo Online's reporting. If truthful reporting by Kosovo Online bothers someone, and if that stands behind such an act of wrongdoing. In any case, the Association of Journalists of Serbia and the Journalists Association of Kosovo and Metohija are here to give full support to colleagues and to demand further what is our right, and that is better protection for journalists who are just doing their job," Vanovac emphasized.
