Deputy Commander of the Kosovo Police for the northern region, Veton Eljšani, confirmed to Kosovo Online that Kosovo Police fired at a person in the village of Vuca near Leposavic. He stated that, after the police stopped a vehicle, a young man fled towards the forest, holding “something suspicious” in his hand, which prompted the police to fire a shot.

.“During a routine patrol, the border police stopped a vehicle that ignored the order to halt. The vehicle stopped not far from the police, and two individuals began to run. Officers pursued them, managing to catch and arrest one, while the other fled towards the forest. That person turned toward the police and was holding something suspicious in his hands, so an officer fired one shot, after which the person continued running toward the forest,” Elshani said.

He added that the same person later reported to the police accompanied by a lawyer.

“This person later came to the police station on his own, accompanied by a lawyer, and both individuals are now at the police station where questioning is ongoing,” Elshani said.

He could not confirm whether the officer fired into the air or in the direction of the individual who, as he said, was fleeing from the police, but emphasized that the Kosovo Police Inspectorate is involved in establishing all the facts.

Earlier today in Vuca, an incident occurred in which the police detained one young man of Serbian nationality, while another fled but later turned himself in at the police station, Kosovo Online has learned. The Kosovo Police fired at the fleeing individual from an automatic rifle.
