Editor of the Kosovo Online portal, Milena Miladinovic, stated that the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) not to grant accreditation to media outlets reporting in Serbian for coverage of the local elections scheduled for October 12 represents a continuation of systemic discrimination against Serbs in Kosovo.

“With this CEC decision, the media have become part of the systemic discrimination against Serbs in Kosovo. It is unacceptable that in the 21st century, Serbian-language media, including those registered within the Kosovo system, are prevented from reporting from the elections and from simply doing their job,” Miladinovic told TV Prva.

Kosovo Online has filed an appeal with the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP), and Miladinovic emphasized that she expects a reaction from representatives of the international community and their support for fundamental democratic principles.

“We will inform all journalists’ associations and international representatives in Kosovo, from whom we expect to stand up for the protection of basic democratic rights,” the editor added.
