Petkovic meets with displaced persons in Kragujevac: Victory of the Serb List a bulwark against Kurti’s terror

Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, met today in Kragujevac with internally displaced persons from Kosovo and urged them to turn out unitedly for the elections on Sunday, 28 December, stressing that they are of crucial importance for the survival of the Serbian people in Kosovo.

Petkovic recalled that this is the third election cycle in less than a year and emphasized that it is extremely important for all Serbs to jointly support the Serb List, because, as he said, a victory for that party means a victory for Serbian unity and solidarity and the continuation of the struggle for the state and national interests of the Serbian people in Kosovo.

“It is particularly important to call on all internally displaced Serbs who live in central Serbia and who, due to the turmoil of war and other circumstances, fleeing Albanian extremists, found their homes here in central Serbia—here and in Kragujevac as well—to respond to the call of the Republic of Serbia and go to Kosovo and Metohija on Sunday. This is of decisive importance to us, because these are people who possess Pristina-issued documents and therefore meet all the conditions to exercise their right to vote in Kosovo and Metohija. We need to vote together for the Serb List, because the victory of the Serb List is a bulwark against Kurti’s terror and his anti-Serb policy,” the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija emphasized.

He pointed out that Albin Kurti will attempt everything in these elections to survive politically, as, he says, for him these elections are a matter of political life and death.

Petkovic also said that Kurti has people who, as he put it, only bear Serbian names and surnames, but in essence have no connection whatsoever with Serbian national interests, the Serbian people in Kosovo, or, least of all, with official Belgrade and the Republic of Serbia.

“People like Nenad Rasic, who have sold their faith for a meal, who have sided with Kurti, who are doing absolutely everything to break Serbian unity, do not represent the Serbian people. Kurti is trying to push Rasic into parliament. We must win all ten seats guaranteed for political representatives of the Serbian people, and the Serb List is the only legitimate political representative. And we should listen to our President Aleksandar Vučic, who in recent days has repeatedly called on all Serbs to turn out and support the Serb List. Ultimately, the Serb List is the umbilical cord that connects the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija with Belgrade. The Serb List is the guarantor of the continuation of comprehensive financial and all other assistance from the Republic of Serbia to the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija. There are many reasons why it is important for the Serb List to win,” Petkovic said.

He added that for days he has been speaking with displaced Serbs in central Serbia to encourage them to go to the polls, even though the period ahead of the New Year and Christmas holidays is challenging.

Above all, he said, the interest of Serbia and the fight for a better future for the Serbian people are paramount.

“Just as Albanians set out for Kosovo and Metohija from France and Switzerland and other Western European countries and all came to Kosovo and Metohija for the holidays to heed what Kurti tells them, let us organize ourselves here, listen to our President; we don’t have to travel thousands of kilometers—we can travel 200 or 300 kilometers to reach the first polling stations immediately after the administrative line and vote, thereby showing that we stand with our people, that we preserve Serbian unity, and that with a pen and wise policy we are doing absolutely everything to protect our people on the one hand, and finally turn our backs on Albin Kurti and his regime,” Petkovic stressed.

He expressed the expectation that after the elections they would enter the new year with greater optimism, thanking the local authorities in Kragujevac and representatives of the Serbian Progressive Party for their support and for organizing activities ahead of the elections.

The meeting with displaced persons in Kragujevac was attended by Mayor Nikola Dasic and Commissioner for Refugees and Displaced Persons Natasa Stanisavljevic.
