American Chamber of Commerce: The government should reconsider the blockade of goods from Serbia, US companies also affected
The American Chamber of Commerce has called on the Government of Kosovo to reconsider measures that restrict imports from Serbia as they obstruct international commercial interests, limiting the flow of products from globally recognized brands, Koha reports.
According to their statement, the American Chamber has announced that the impact of this decision has greatly affected international companies, including those from the United States.
According to official data available to the American Chamber, "the import of goods from companies with significant American ownership has decreased by more than 39 percent compared to 2022, highlighting the significant impact of the current measures of the Government of Kosovo on international companies."
"The data reveal a grim reality, the import of goods from American companies is declining at an alarming rate. Every trade barrier, such as this ban, inevitably increases consumer prices, further burdening family budgets. Moreover, in a context where Kosovo has already lifted the ban on the import of raw materials and semi-finished products from Serbia, it is meaningless and ironic to maintain measures banning the import of goods that represent an international commercial interest," the statement reads.
The American Chamber has stated that the economic normalization of Kosovo and Serbia "goes beyond bilateral interests."
"Continuously advocating for an open and balanced trade policy, the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo demands swift and decisive actions that will support economic growth, prosperity, and regional harmony," the statement concludes.
