Professor of International Relations Dritero Arifi said that there should be better coordination between the president, the government and the Kosovo Assembly, as the institutions need to take a common approach, particularly in foreign policy, so that Kosovo can present a unified position to its international partners.

Arifi reiterated that the issue of the Specialist Chambers was important, especially following the adoption of amendments to the law governing the institution. He said a working group should be established to coordinate and monitor developments following the first-instance convictions of four KLA leaders.

“The president should act with a different sense of urgency. Stronger cooperation needs to be established between the president, the government and the Assembly, as well as the political parties. Given the urgency of the issue concerning the Special Court, an initiative to establish a working group should certainly be launched as early as today. Who will lead it? The president should take the helm together with the foreign minister, meaning they should act in a coordinated manner,” Arifi told Kosovo Press.

According to him, there must be no disagreements on this issue.

“Otherwise, we would act like a country that is not coordinated, is not serious and has differing interpretations of foreign policy. That must not happen. The door could open if the State Department, Washington and the White House become convinced that Kosovo should be treated as an equal state, because at the moment it is not being treated on an equal footing with other countries in the region,” Arifi said.
