Atic submitted a request for membership of North Mitrovica in the Association of Kosovo Municipalities
The new mayor of North Mitrovica, Erden Atic, submitted a request for membership in the Association of Kosovo Municipalities, Koha reported.
He sent an official request to the president of the Association, Sazan Ibrahimi, in which he requested that the municipality he leads becomes part of that organization.
"As the mayor of North Mitrovica, I inform you that in order to protect and promote common municipal interests, based on the Law on Local Self-Government, in cooperation with the North Mitrovica Municipality Assembly, I am launching the procedure for the membership of the North Mitrovica municipality in the Association of Kosovo Municipalities," Atic’s request reads, the mayor of the Serb-majority municipality, elected on April 23, in which only about four percent of the voters, of whom 13 were Serbs, voted in the four municipalities in the north.
The Association informed Koha that the non-governmental organization had received Atic's request.
"Today we officially accepted the membership request. We answered and explained the procedures for membership in the Association," President Sazan Ibrahimi said.
The Association of Kosovo Municipalities (AKM) was founded in 2001 as a non-profit organization, whose members are local self-government bodies, excluding Serbian municipalities.
