Kurti: The Special Police will not leave the municipal buildings in the north while the angry mob is on the street
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti arrived in Bratislava today, although the day before he said that he had canceled his participation in the forum in Slovakia, and he said that despite demands from Washington, members of the Special Police would not withdraw from municipal buildings in the north of Kosovo.
Kurti emphasized that "as long as the angry mob is on the streets, threatening to attack, the Special Forces must be in the municipal buildings."
"Our police do a very professional job, they are trained by the US and the EU, they are Western-oriented and they know human rights well and there are no injuries by our police," Kurti said.
Kurti stated that he had met with Borrell and Lajcak.
"I told them that if this had been a peaceful protest, I would have understood, but not for the mob that shot and shouted “kill, kill”. We will not hand over our republic to this fascist mob," Kurti said.
He added that the solution to this crisis was "either for the mob to return to Serbia or to end up in Kosovo prisons".
To recall, the American ambassador in Pristina, Jeffrey Hovenier, said last night that the cancellation of Kosovo's participation in the "Defender Europe 2023" exercise was the first consequence for the Government of Kosovo, which had rejected Washington's calls to de-escalate the situation in the north.
"I have to say that at the moment the US does not have much enthusiasm to react to some of Kosovo's interests, such as engaging with countries regarding recognition or actively working to improve Kosovo on the Euro-Atlantic path. We hope that Prime Minister Kurti will listen to our advice and immediately take steps for reducing tensions in the north," Hovenier said.
