Political analyst Dusan Borisavljevic believes that the use of force and the increasingly visible pressure exerted by the Kosovo Police in North Mitrovica during the implementation of decisions adopted by the municipality are unnecessary, as the situations in question do not involve criminal offences or threats to people's lives and safety.

"The Municipality of North Mitrovica is under constant pressure and is being used primarily for political purposes. Some people are simply trying to score political points. I studied in Mitrovica, and no town in Kosovo is perfect, including Mitrovica. There is always a need to address certain municipal issues, but what is happening now has gone too far in terms of deploying the police over trivial matters," Borisavljevic told Kosovo Online.

He added that such disagreements could be resolved through dialogue, while also pointing out that Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo do not enjoy the level of local self-government guaranteed by law.

"Under the law, Serb-majority municipalities should have a somewhat greater degree of self-government. That is why I find it regrettable to see that even the basic level of local self-government is not being respected, let alone the enhanced level of autonomy that, according to the law, they should be entitled to," Borisavljevic said.
