The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, said today that during her visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), she had had a great meeting with Interpol President Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, who had confirmed that during his mandate, Kosovo's application for membership in that organization would not be on the agenda, RTV reports.

Brnabic told TV Pink that this was particularly important for Serbia, because according to her, two key institutions were Interpol and UNESCO, and it was important that they did not consider Kosovo's requests for membership.

"I am very satisfied with the results of the visit to the UAE and the cooperation with that country," she said, adding that 10 agreements had been signed with the UAE last year.

Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi was elected President of Interpol in November 2021 and his mandate lasts for four years.

Brnabic: UN resolutions are valid for Cyprus, but not for Serbia

Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic, said today that double standards were applied in international relations regarding territorial disputes and cited the example of Cyprus and Kosovo, which were treated in different ways by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the solution of two Germanys was not an option for Cyprus, but the only solution was through the UN and compliance with the relevant UN resolutions. So, two states are not an option for Cyprus, and when they talk about Serbia it is probably the only option but respecting the UN resolutions is not. But that's the reality and we have to work within those frameworks, to preserve Serbia and President Vucic is working on that," Brnabic said.

She explained that it was necessary to work on the economic strengthening of Serbia in parallel with the protection of national interests in the political sphere.

"Politically, you have to protect the interests of our people, including Kosovo, but on the other hand, you have to continue to build bridges with those who say that the UN resolution applies to Cyprus, but it must not be applied to Serbia," Brnabic remarked.
