Car of Serb List candidate for municipal councilor set on fire; Sofronijevic: The goal is to intimidate me and my family
The candidate for municipal councilor from the Serb List, Caslav Sofronijevic, whose car was set on fire last night around 1 a.m. in Vlade Cetkovic Street in Zvecan, told Kosovo Online that he suspects the attack was aimed at intimidating him and his family.
“From the moment the Serb List released its list of candidates for councilors, which included me, various rumors began circulating on social media. Neither I nor my family have anything to do with that. As the epilogue of all that, this happened tonight. I am convinced that this is an attack on me and my family, carried out by individuals who do not show themselves in front of the people, but in the dark try to inflict harm and pain on me, but also on our people. I firmly stand behind the policy pursued by Serb List and I am convinced that this is the only right path for the well-being of our people in Kosovo and Metohija,” Sofronijevic said.
Police officers and firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and, according to Sofronijevic, acted professionally.
“The police and firefighters were here within a minute. I have no complaints about them; they did everything as they should. An inspection was carried out, and further teams will continue with the investigation. They are doing their job,” Sofronijevic stated.
Sofronijevic, who has spent his entire life in Zvecan and who, as he says, advocates for a peaceful policy and a better life for citizens, emphasized that he will not give up on his political path.
“I have lived in this town for 62 years. I have devoted my whole life to peaceful politics, to living in this area, to improving this town, to ensuring a better life. Obviously, some believe this policy is not good and want to impose their own. I have no problem facing them, talking, seeing where we agree and where we don’t. But such actions, under the cover of night, are pitiful. My children and grandchildren watched the fire from the balcony, neighbors rushed to help, but it is what it is. It is just a car, metal, it can be replaced,” Sofronijevic said.
The forensic team from Pristina carried out the on-site investigation.
Kosovo Police: Initial findings show the fire was caused by a fault in the vehicle’s electrical system
The Head of Planning and Operational Evaluation of the Regional Operations of Kosovo Police – North Mitrovica, Lieutenant Erduan Baliqi, told Kosovo Online that according to the initial results of the investigation, the fire was caused by a malfunction in the vehicle’s electrical wiring.
He said that police received the information about the burning car around 1 a.m., after which a police unit and firefighters immediately went to the scene and took all necessary measures.
“Fire experts also came to the scene. Based on initial data and the evidence so far, we suspect that the fire was caused solely by the vehicle’s electrical system,” Baliqi stated.
He stressed that there are currently no suspects and that the investigation is continuing in line with the law and established procedures.
