Citizens of central Kosovo on Statehood Day: Let's remember history and celebrate heroes who fought for freedom
On the holiday of Sretenje, the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia, citizens of central Kosovo assessed for Kosovo Online that Serbs were obligated to remember past times and the heroes who had fought for freedom.
For institutions functioning under the system of the Republic of Serbia in Kosovo, today is a non-working day, while Kosovo institutions operate regularly.
Nebojsa Simic from Gracanica asserts that Serbs should appreciate, respect, and celebrate the heroes who fought for Serbia's freedom.
"Today we celebrate the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia. History has taught us to appreciate, respect, and celebrate our ancestors for the heroes who liberated Serbia from the Turks and long slavery. Today is the Day of the Republic of Serbia, and Serbian institutions are not working. Do you see how deserted Gracanica is without the institutions of the Republic of Serbia?" Simic asked.
Slavica Petrovic from Gracanica emphasizes that Serbs must remember past times.
"Today we celebrate the Statehood Day of Serbia, our country. History has taught us that we must remember all past times, remember all the good deeds, but if we could forget what is happening to us here, that would be best, but it is hard to forget," Petrovic said.
Today also marks the church holiday of the Meeting of the Lord (Sretenje in Serbian), commemorating the day when the Mother of God first brought the newborn Christ into the temple to consecrate him to God.
"Today is February 15, and we celebrate Sretenje. Winter meets summer. We went to the monastery, there was a liturgy. Today is also the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia, our wonderful holiday," Milena Radomirovic said.
