Covic: Ambassador Konrad's statement is a consequence of the superficiality of lower officials or evil intention
The former head of the Coordination Center for Kosovo and Metohija, Nebojsa Covic, today assessed as astonishing the statement and interpretation of the German ambassador to Serbia, Anke Konrad, that the UN Resolution 1244 did not provide a basis for the return of Serbian units to Kosovo.
"It is in line with the recent public recognition of the former Chancellor Angela Merkel, that international agreements such as the Minsk Agreement were signed in order to deceive one contracting party or to buy time," Covic assessed in a statement for Tanjug.
He added that he would like to believe that Konrad said that because she had not had the opportunity to study the text of the resolution and to act according to the instructions of her directorate, and that it could be a consequence of the superficiality of lower officials in their ministries.
Covic added that such outbursts were not surprising, because two weeks ago, KFOR had issued an official statement in which it misinterpreted its mandate, referring to UN Security Council resolution 1244 from 2009, even though the resolution had been adopted ten years earlier in 1999.
"However, if it is not a lack of information, but a malignant intention to make us crazy, then that reveals a lot about the real intentions, as well as about who are the forces behind the destabilization created by Albin Kurti, which the public has been speculating for months ", Covic pointed out.
He also believes that the position of the representatives of the American administration is more honest, because, as he pointed out, "they directly said that the provisions on the return of the Serbian army and police to Kosovo existed in the UN Security Council resolution 1244, but that the US opposed their implementation."
Konrad said yesterday that Serbia's request for the return of its army and police to Kosovo was unacceptable for Germany because as she said, the UN Resolution 1244 did not provide a basis for the return of units.
“That resolution exists and based on it, KFOR will formulate answers, we said that from our perspective, the UN Resolution 1244 did not provide a basis for the return of units from Serbia to the north of Kosovo, but that KFOR's response would follow."
