Delevic: I expect Popovic to be released as soon as possible

Milos Delevic, the attorney representing Igor Popovic, Assistant Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, who was recently arrested, told RTS that he hopes Popovic will be released as soon as possible, calling on the court and prosecution to respect the right to freedom of expression.

Delević believes that the proceedings against Popović have no legal basis.

“We call on the Special Prosecution and the Special Court to respect basic human rights, especially the right to freedom of expression. We expect a swift and fair resolution of the case, and for Igor Popovic to be released as soon as possible,” said Delevic.

He added that a detention hearing will be held tomorrow at 4 p.m., when it will be determined whether Popović will be released or remanded in custody for up to 30 days.

Popović was detained last night following his speech at a memorial for Serbian victims in Orahovac, due to his remarks about the KLA.
