Doctor Nikola Todorovic, who was detained in Jarinja yesterday, was ordered by the court to be detained for one month, due to the accusation that he attacked a police officer, his lawyer Milos Delevic told fr Kosovo Online.

"It is true that he attacked a police officer, but he claims that he was provoked and mistreated by the police. He was forcibly separated from his family and taken to a dark, small room, where he feared for his life and hit the police officer in self-defense,", a lawyer hired by the Office for Kosovo and Metohija said.

The judge issued a decision ordering detention for 30 days, and Delevic announces an appeal to the Court of Appeal.

"We offered bail, but the judge didn't want to accept it," said the lawyer.

He also added that it was the first time that the trial for determining detention lasted six hours.

"I don't know why it took so long," Delevic said.

He stated that Todorovic feels well and is in good mental and physical health.

"He is an educated man, a respected doctor in Belgrade, he is not a criminal, he has not been convicted before, no investigation was conducted against him. I really don't know why this happened," Delevic said.

He also explained that Todorovic had documents for the children, namely passports, but he did not have birth certificates for them.

"He didn't know that and he couldn't have known that there was such a regulation. There was a problem between the policeman and him and what happened happened," said Delevic.

Todorovic was detained yesterday afternoon at the Jarinje crossing.
