Full membership in the European Union remains Serbia's strategic priority, and the new Government will begin cooperation with the Union with renewed energy, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric pointed out today in a conversation with the head of the EU delegation in Serbia, Emanuele Giofre.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Djuric underlined that for the new Government of Serbia, as a government of continuity, full membership in the European Union is a strategic priority, and that Serbia respects European values and wants to contribute to common prosperity and peace in Europe.

The head of Serbian diplomacy explained that Serbia's foreign policy will be based on state and national interests, but that it will also be a policy of extending a hand and cooperation with friends and partners in the world.

Serbia's intention, according to Djuric, is to approach cooperation with the EU with renewed energy and to work on changing the perception of our country in many member states.

As he noted, Serbia also has an unequivocal economic interest in cooperating even more closely with the EU, since the EU is the biggest partner both when it comes to the export of goods and services and when it comes to the inflow of foreign direct investments.

Djuric further assessed that the good relations that Serbia has with numerous non-European countries can be a common political and economic resource for Serbia and the EU.
