Djuric spoke with Doughty: Serbia insists on an investigation under strict international supervision

Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, held a telephone conversation with British Minister Stephen Doughty, during which he briefed him on the situation in Kosovo and emphasized that Serbia insists on conducting an investigation under strict international supervision to determine who orchestrated and carried out the attack on a vital infrastructure facility in Kosovo, as well as the political background of the incident.

According to a statement from Serbia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Djuric informed the UK Minister of State for Europe, North America, and the Overseas Territories about Serbia’s position on the recent "sabotage of the Ibar-Lepenac canal" in the municipality of Zubin Potok.

Djuric stressed that Serbia is adamant about the need for an investigation with strict international oversight to identify the perpetrators and masterminds behind the attack on a critical infrastructure facility in Kosovo and to uncover the political motives behind this event.

The Serbian Minister explained that Serbia would provide all necessary assistance to shed light on the circumstances and ensure the investigation leads to those responsible. As he stated, international partners can count on Serbia’s full cooperation.

“The Serbian Foreign Minister also took the opportunity to warn about attempts by Pristina to unjustly and baselessly link Belgrade to this incident. He pointed out that this is yet another attempt by Albin Kurti’s regime to discredit Serbia and divert attention from the ongoing physical and legal violence against the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija. He emphasized that the marginalization and oppression of Serbs have become institutionalized,” the statement reads.

Djuric concluded that it is crucial for the international community to support Belgrade’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region until the investigation yields results, and to “halt Kurti’s irresponsible attempts to exploit this situation for further regional destabilization and his own electoral purposes”.
